We are pleased to introduce ourselves as Graphite mining, processing and exporting company for over 160 years in Sri Lanka. Our company is a subsidiary of Ms Graphit Kropfmühl AG group of companies in Germany which has 5 other member companies in the UK, Republic of China, Czech. Republic, Zimbabwe and in the Federal Republic of Germany.
The GK group is world renowned as one of the oldest group companies operating in the Republic of Germany for over 150 years. We are the worlds only vein graphite producer and have been exporting our products to countries such as USA,UK ,Japan ,India ,Pakistan and Germany to name a few. We have contributed significantly to quality and productivity improvements in the industry especially those resulting from the special characteristics of our graphite. Evolution of Sri Lankan Graphite Industry and the history of Bogala
400-500 AD Archeological evidence found in ancient Sinhala Kingdom Sigiriya area proved locally mined Iron are and graphite were used to made steel to manufacture war tools & weapons-such as swards shields & arrows etc.
1675 - Decoration of clay pots with graphite, in the Kandiyan era.
1829 - Start of graphite exportation to use
1847 - During the decade 1840 – 50 graphite mining was spreading to Sabaragamuwa Province Sri Lanka and Bogala Graphite Mines started
1899 - Peak of the Graphite Production
1916 - Record of tonnage exported
1942 - Second highest export
1948 - Start of the Post colonial era
1952 - New Technology introduced in Bogala Graphite mines and installed electrically powered hoisting machine & pumps
1971 - Nationalization of the Graphite Industry
1991 - Bogala Graphite Lanka Ltd. becomes a Public Company
2000 - Graphit Kropfmuehl becomes the major share holder of BGLL
2004 - BGLL Obtained ISO 9001 : 2000 Quality Management system certification
2007 - BGLL Obtained ISO 14001 : 2004 Environmental system certification
2007 - Installed Fine Powder plant to produce end-users' product requirement
